PSALM 18:2 Christian standard bible (CSB)

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliver. My God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Intro:

We give All to God the Father, Jesus our savior and to whom much is deserved the holy spirit. I chose this verse for today because I saw this verse in someone’s story and believed it was God speaking to me. After all, he speaks to us in many ways. Immediately opened my bible which is CSB version, and read the scripture. Psalm was written by David, and my bible says he spoke these words of this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from the grasp of all his enemies and from the power of Saul; which I think is worth noting. David was very serious about his worship of God, after all, Psalm is one of the longest books in the bible, He had much to thank God for as we can read from the books of Samuel and some chapters of Chronicles.

Body:

I read the CSB version multiple times without getting any real insight from the verse apart from the literal meanings. When in doubt I like to look at others translations to see the full picture better. There was one translation that really stood out to me. The Brenton Septuagint Translation which says: The Lord is my firm support, and my refuge, and my deliverer; my God is my helper, I will hope in him; he is my defender, and the horn of my salvation, and my helper.; what really stood out to me was the translation of the first sentence. Most verses translate it to be “The lord is my rock” including the CSB and NIV and KJV. But in this version, the bible said “The Lord is my firm support”. I think personally this helped me understand the description David was giving to God. He was describing God as his Rock, his firm support. The GNT also stood out to me which says “The LORD is my protector”. Rocks are generally immovable. Describing God helps us see God as a protector, a place we take cover when are a taking heavy fire. Be it from the devil in the form of temptations, be it stress from work, be it family pressure, or even financial pressure. I think that’s a really common one. It helps us know that we don’t have to take the bullets for ourselves or alone. We shouldn’t even be doing it alone. God is the only one that can do it for us the right way. May his will be done. Sometimes it may take just a simple prayer or sometimes it can take weeks of prayer and fasting after all Gods timing is different for everyone. I just pray that we don’t not lose faith as we wait on God. Sometimes too God is waiting on us but we are just oblivious or just too shallow-minded to hear him speaking to us. I know I was for a solid 6 months. That is why the bible is one the most important tools you can have not only for Christians but everyday people. It helps us get to know God for ourselves and to become more like him, more righteous, more holy, and pure. Then we can get to know the different ways God is talking to us. The rest of the verse just continue to emphasize on the fact that we should be seeking God first in times of need. I am a living testimony. I pray that God will give us the strength, faith, and courage that in desperate times, we will not turn to the world for solutions because those lead to death and destruction, but we will turn to God as our number one helper. Thank you.
